Basic information about this unique plant.
Sorghum (Sorghum Moench) is an annual, spring plant, similar to corn, and is one of the five most important crops in the world. Sorghum belongs to the "grass" family (Poaceae), which, depending on the systematic approach, includes up to about 60 species.
This family also includes species such as corn or sugar cane. Sorghum is grown mainly in developing countries. It was originally grown in Africa, where the largest number of sorghum species occur to this day.
The first domestication of this plant took place in Chad and Sudan.
Then, from Africa, Sorghum was moved to other territories, including India, China, North America and Europe.
Sorghum is an undemanding plant, resistant to high temperatures,
lack of water and growing quickly.
